Von L. Ridings, 90, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021, at his home, with family by his side.
He was born Dec. 19, 1930, in Bollinger County to the late Elzie Lee and Iona Elizabeth Rhodes Ridings. Von married Mary F. "Tootie" Cook on April 18, 1966, in Leslie, Missouri.
Von retired from Cape Paint & Glass in 1982. He then opened his own small engine repair shop and continued working from 1982 until his retirement in 2010.
Von was a member of the Travelers Protective Association since 1972.
He had an amazing talent as a woodworker and in his younger days was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary "Tootie" Ridings of Cape Girardeau; daughters, Connie Hale of Cape Girardeau and Judy Carroll of Jefferson City, Missouri; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and four great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don Ridings; and grandchildren, Brandy Vandeven and Derek Hale.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. J.T. Thomason officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Cape Senior Center, 921 N. Clark Ave., Cape Girardeau, MO 63701 or the charity of your choice.
