Rudolf Anton "Rudy" Bodenschatz, 94, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of New Wells, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Rudolf Anton "Rudy" Bodenschatz, 94, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of New Wells, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 17, 1926, in New Wells, son of Oscar A. and Paula Schuessler Bodenschatz. He and Wilma Tiedemann were married Sept. 7, 1951, in St. Louis. She passed away March 24, 2014.

Rudy grew up in the New Wells area. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II from Jan, 5, 1945, to June 19, 1946, earning the rank of E-3. He was a television repairman for Famous Barr--St. Louis for many years, retiring in 1990. He and Wilma lived in St. Louis for over 60 years, returning to New Wells in 2005. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells and Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.

Loving survivors include a daughter, Joyce (Brad) Hutson of Altenburg, Missouri; two grandchildren, Tara Donley of Jackson and Wade Hutson of Crystal City, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Levi and Vincent Donley of Jackson; and two sisters, Erna Kleine of Mehlville, Missouri, and Clara Weber of Arnold, Missouri.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, Wilma Bodenschatz, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leonard "Red" Bodenschatz; and a grandson, Dallan Hutson.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Steven Theiss officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in New Wells.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Immanuel Lutheran School Tuition Fund or Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
