Edward Don Sester, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 22, 2021, at his home after an extended illness.

He was born Jan. 20, 1950, in Bethesda, Maryland, to Edward Loren and Ellen Gilliam Sester. He and Jo Ann Kuehn were married July 25, 1998, at Cape Girardeau.

Don served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot and a warrant officer.

He received an associate in aeronautical engineering with a minor in business from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

He worked as a tax consultant with the Internal Revenue Service.

Don and Jo Ann traveled to all 50 states and several countries. He loved building models.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Sester of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Julie (Bryan) Lowell of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Carson and Wyatt Lowell, Cameron Collins and her mother, Liz, and William Hite and his mother, Marina; special friends, Ray and Jan Hucek of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at the funeral home, with Dave Carter officiating. Burial, with full military rites provided by Missouri Honors Team, will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
