Wayne Edward Evans, 79, peacefully passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021, at his home in Gordonville.

He was born Nov. 20, 1941, to Newton Samuel Evans and Gertrude Louise Johnson Evans. He and Nancy White, of Chaffee, were married Sept. 22, 1962.

Wayne attended St. Paul Lutheran School and graduated from Oak Ridge High School. He was a machinist at Jackson Auto Parts for 36 years before retiring from Southeast Missouri State University, Grounds and Maintenance Department, where he was able to work doing his two favorite hobbies -- yard work and mechanics.

He loved spending time with family and beautifying his own yard, planting trees and shrubs for the next generation. His grand project was a full restoration of a 1961 MGA Roadster.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers ,Robert Evans of Michigan and Michael Evans of Florida. Loving survivors are his wife of 59 years; daughters, Tammy (Steve) Obermann of Cape Girardeau and Michelle Evans (Jennifer Drury) of Whitewater; grandchildren, Rhett (Brooke) Obermann, Regan (Cory) Yeates, all of Cape Girardeau and Catherine (Michael) Regna of St. Charles, Missouri; and three great granddaughters, Charlee and Raelynn Regna of St. Charles and Riley Waye Obermann, all of Cape Girardeau.

Other surviving family are brothers, Ted (Mary) Evans of Michigan and Ken Evans of Oak Ridge and several brother and sister in-laws and nieces and nephews. Also surviving is the family's four-year-old Border Collie, Chris, the most intuitive dog ever.

Visitation will at 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

The family kindly suggest memorial contributions be made to Adult and Teen Challenge of Mid America in Cape Girardeau or charity of donor's choice.
