TAMMS, Ill. -- Everett Gene Varner, 83, of Tamms passed away at 5:16 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. On Dec. 19, 1937, in Olive Branch, Illinois, he was born to the late Dorothy Hill Story. TAMMS, Ill. -- Everett Gene Varner, 83, of Tamms passed away at 5:16 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

On Dec. 19, 1937, in Olive Branch, Illinois, he was born to the late Dorothy Hill Story.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, was a retired supervisor of maintenance for Egyptian School District and was president of Modern Woodmen of America.

In addition to his mother, Everett was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Morris.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Varner of Tamms; son, Tim Varner of Tamms; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Jeff Farris of Thebes, Illinois; grandchildren, Lance (Carla) Farris of St. Louis and Bonnie Farris of Portland, Oregon; great-granddaughter, Emilia Joy Farris; two sisters, Betty Jordan of Grand Tower, Illinois, and Anna Davis of Benton, Illinois; other relatives and friends.

Private family services will be held. Inurnment will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Dongola, Illinois. Full military honors will be given by the Scott Air Force Base Burial Team and area veterans.
