BENTON, Mo. -- Mary Margaret Margrabe, 85 of Benton died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, at her home. She was born Dec. 14, 1935, in Benton to Edward and Alma Scherer Heuring. She married Marvin Margrabe on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1953. She retired as a machine operator at Thorngate in Chaffee, Missouri, after 44 years, then returned to school to obtain her GED at the age of 62. ...

BENTON, Mo. -- Mary Margaret Margrabe, 85 of Benton died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, at her home.

She was born Dec. 14, 1935, in Benton to Edward and Alma Scherer Heuring. She married Marvin Margrabe on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1953.

She retired as a machine operator at Thorngate in Chaffee, Missouri, after 44 years, then returned to school to obtain her GED at the age of 62. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton and St. Ann's Sodality. She was a 4-H leader, softball coach, bowler, an avid bingo player but her and Marvin's favorite thing to do was go dancing on Saturday night. After retirement, she did a lot of alteration work and enjoyed fixing jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin of Benton; a son, Walter (Janice) Margrabe of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, LaDonna (James) Gregory and JoAnn Easter, both of Benton; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ellen LaCroix and two infant brothers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at the St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton with the Rev. Bala Swamy Govindu as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Denis Cemetery in Benton.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Denis Church or St. Jude's Hospital.
