La Vern Flora Steffens Fox, 96, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born June 3, 1925, in Farrar, Missouri, to the late Ernst and Rosa Versemen Steffens. La Vern and Charles W. Fox were married July 26, 1952, in Farrar. La Vern Flora Steffens Fox, 96, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born June 3, 1925, in Farrar, Missouri, to the late Ernst and Rosa Versemen Steffens.

La Vern and Charles W. Fox were married July 26, 1952, in Farrar. He preceded her in death Aug. 1, 2002.

After marriage and several of Charles' military postings in Europe and the United States, they retired in Portsmouth, Virginia, and later moved to Cape Girardeau. La Vern was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her stepson, Jerry W. (Mollie) Fox of Cherokee Village, Arkansas; stepdaughter, JoAnn Wiggins of Portsmouth; brothers, Arlan (Ruby) Steffens of Farrar, Cleo (Carol) Steffens of St. Louis and Wayne (Marilyn) Steffens of Cape Girardeau; sisters, Edith (Milton) Roth of Farrar and Virginia (Dennis) Guyott of St. Charles, Missouri; eight stepgrandchildren; numerous great-stepgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

La Vern was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Fox; stepson, Don L. Fox; stepson-in-law, Jesse Wiggins; brother, Norman Steffens; and sister, Verna Steffens.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Dehne officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Andrew Lutheran Church or Worship Anew, 5 Martin Lutheran Drive, Fort Wayne, IN 46825.
