Roy Hartle Sr., son of the late George and Irene Hahs Hartle, was born Feb. 19, 1947, in Cape Girardeau and departed this life Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, at Saint Francis Medical Center at the age of 74. Roy Hartle Sr.

Roy Hartle Sr., son of the late George and Irene Hahs Hartle, was born Feb. 19, 1947, in Cape Girardeau and departed this life Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, at Saint Francis Medical Center at the age of 74.

Roy retired as a school teacher of the Delta School District after 25 years and continued to teach at various Missouri schools in Scott County, Cape Girardeau County and Mississippi County for another five years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, was of the Baptist faith and was a resident of Scott City. Roy graduated in 1965 from Perryville (Missouri) High School and was an All-State and All-District standout playing Perryville Pirates Football.

On June 21, 1968, he was united in marriage to Selena Faye Miller in Baumholder, Germany. She survives of the home in Scott City.

Besides his wife, other survivors include two sons, Roy (Joseph) Hartle Jr. and Ralph Greg (Jessica) Hartle, both of Scott City; three brothers, John Hartle and Wade Hartle, both of Missouri, and Joe Hartle of Florida; two sisters, Barbara Abernathy and Joy Friedrich, both of Jackson; and four grandsons, Carter, Cooper Noah and Eli.

Besides his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a niece, Susan Abernathy; nephew, John David Hartle; and brother-in-law, Willie Abernathy.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Randy Morse officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.
