HOUSTON, Texas -- Joe N. Bankhead Jr., 61, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022, at his home. HOUSTON, Texas -- Joe N. Bankhead Jr., 61, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022, at his home.

He was born Jan. 3, 1961, in Wyatt, Missouri, to the late Joe Nathan and Lillian Ann Sloan Bankhead Sr.

Joe graduated from Charleston (Missouri) High School in 1979 and furthered his education at University of Missouri at Columbia (Mizzou) on a National Merit Scholarship.

Joe enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 1986. After leaving the military, Joe returned to Southeast Missouri and was employed in the communications department at KBSI television station in Cape Girardeau. After much success, he relocated back to Columbia and then to St. Louis, eventually settling in Houston.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Eric Faucette Sr.

Joe is survived by his brother, Minister Michael Bankhead of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Jacquelyn Faucette of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Glenda Obot of Houston, Maude (Michael) Harris of Sikeston and Mary (George) Bankhead-Jackson of Charleston; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at noon Friday at Open Door Fellowship Church, 204 Jackson St. in Sikeston, with Pastor Michael K. Harris Sr. officiating. Services are also available via Zoom 5734712500.

Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. Full military honors will be accorded.

The Williams Funeral Homes of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
