Betty Lou Bretz Matthews, 89, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 17, 1933, in Bollinger County, Missouri, daughter of Albert and Dora Greer Mouser. She and Howard Bretz were married Nov. 18, 1948; he passed away July 13, 1995. Betty and Donald Matthews were married May 14, 2008; he passed away Jan. 29, 2021.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson for many years, until she and Don became members of Cape County Cowboy Church. Betty was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed yard sales. After retiring, she devoted her time to her family and hobbies. Betty worked for International Shoe Company in Jackson 15 years and 15 years for Lenco in Jackson.
Loving survivors include three nephews, Chris (Jamie) Mouser of Jackson, Dennis (Beverly) Goskie of St. Louis and Tom (Shelia) Goskie of Tampa, Florida; two great-nieces, Annie (Luke Jordan) Mouser and Lauren (Brayden) Beaird, and one great-nephew, C.J. Mouser, all of Jackson; four great-great-nephews, Hunter, Wayne, Henry and Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Howard Bretz, and her second husband, Don Matthews; two sisters, Wilda Slinkard and Leona Goskie; and a brother, Delbert Mouser.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Allen Cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Disabled American Veterans.
