He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, stationed in Spokane, Washington.

In 1959, Glenn and Nellie returned to Cape Girardeau. Glenn worked at First Federal Savings and Loan for many years in various accounting and vice president positions. He was a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club and enjoyed working with youth in the oratorical contests and sports activities.

He was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, youth teacher and on various committees. He served as church treasurer for many years. He believed in serving Jesus Christ and others, believed in using your abilities and talents in the church. Glenn is fondly remembered as being soft spoken, slow to anger and having a dry sense of humor. He loved having his family around and was blessed with the fruits of the spirit. Glenn's favorite Bible verse was "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul" Mark 8:36 and Matthew 16:26.

In later years, Glenn suffered with Alzheimer's disease, as his mother had suffered. He prepared his affairs and family. Nellie and Glenn remained constant companions, helping each other as they faced their final years. They are remembered and honored for their devotion and loyalty to each other. Nellie preceded him in death by one week. It is fitting they enter Heaven together. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his brother, Pat (Paulette) McGill. He is also survived by three children, Tim (Sheree) McGill of Fenton, Missouri, Cindy (Kevin) Teegarden of Jackson and Mark McGill of Springfield, Missouri. He had five grandchildren, Rebecca (Chris) Perstrope of Fenton, Amy (Adam) Reinking of the Czech Republic, Megan (Steven) Butler of Arnold, Missouri, Courtney (Nathan) Turner of Sikeston and Hunter Teegarden of Jackson; along with 11 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Chloe, Ellie and Mya Perstrope, Eden, Bennett and Owen Reinking and Judah, Brody, Miles and Reis Butler.

The family would like to thank Auburn Creek Assisted Living, Southeast Hospital and Lutheran Home for their exceptional care and compassion in his last days.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Burial was at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
