Faye Almalene Schreiner died peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022, surrounded by her family at Monticello House in Jackson.

She was born in the Red Star area of Cape Girardeau to Pinkston Pervis and Ella Eliza Welker Niswonger on Feb. 6, 1933.

She attended Washington School and the Old Central High School.

"Alm" never met a stranger. She could talk her way into and out of all kinds of situations. When she entered the room, you would know there was going to be a party.

She was proud of the fact she was of pioneer stock in Cape Girardeau County, being descended down from three of the first 20 families from North Carolina to settle in this area.

She worked many years as an activity director for Chateau Girardeau. While there, she was instrumental in starting Cape Girardeau's first Senior Fun Fest. She was very active in the Democratic Ladies group in the county as president and as an election official for many years. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary 3838. She was once nominated for "The Spirit of America Award."

She was active in her church, growing up in the Red Star Baptist Church and then becoming a charter member of LaCroix Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, worked in the nursery and helped with Bible school.
