Christopher Charles "Chris" Humburg II, beloved son, husband, father and Papa of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022, at the age of 83. Chris died peacefully surrounded by his beloved wife, Sandy, daughter, Renee, and several grandchildren by his side.

Chris was born June 19, 1939, in St. Louis to father Christopher Charles and mother Vera Christine Hartmann Humburg, and raised in Webster Groves, Missouri. Being an only child, some of Chris's favorite childhood memories included visiting family in Bedford, Indiana, and spending his days fishing and playing in the creek with his dad and best friend. After graduating from Webster Groves High School, he attended Southeast Missouri State University. Chris met the love of his life, Sandra Jean Kolkmann, while they both worked at New Amsterdam Casualty Co., and they were married for more than 60 years.

Chris was known for his humor, warmth of heart and his dedication to his family, friends and community. While living in St. Louis, Chris served as a leader for his son's Indian Guide tribe and was a member of the Jaycees. After relocating to Scott City, Chris continued to serve his community as a member of the Kiwanis Club, Ramsey Rangers Muzzleloader Club and Broadway United Methodist Church. He also proudly served on several committees for Otahki Girl Scout Council, including the Camp Committee, where he earned several awards for his leadership.

Chris was also an avid outdoorsman, traveler and history aficionado. He imparted to his children and grandchildren the importance of cherishing time with family and friends, though he loved the solitude of a walk through a forest in the company of one of his beloved dogs. He and his wife, Sandy, loved to travel together, visiting places such as Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Japan and Iceland, among many other adventures, and he also visited many Civil War battle sites with his son to trace the paths of his ancestors and his favorite Civil War hero, President Ulysses S. Grant. Above all, he prioritized spending time with his grandchildren, instilling a love of nature, game nights with root beer floats, family vacations and showing up for the big moments.
