Judy C. Edwards Rueseler, 78, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, at her home.

She was born March 9, 1944, in Niles, Michigan, daughter of L. Harold and Colleen Potter Edwards. Her childhood years were spent growing up in Kennett, Missouri. After graduating from high school in Kennett, she moved to Cape Girardeau to attend Southeast Missouri State University. She graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She married Ronald Charles Rueseler in 1967. He preceded her in death in 2005.

Judy taught first grade at Clippard Elementary School for several years. She then began pursuing a master's degree in education, which she received in 1975 from Southeast Missouri State University. Several years later, she was employed as a homebound teacher for Cape Girardeau School District.

She had been a member and past president of PEO Chapter FY. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cape Girardeau and had served as a deacon and an elder. She had taught Sunday school in the children's department for more than 15 years, had served on many committees and had been a member of the church choir.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Whitney and Brian Doyle of Memphis, Tennessee; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan C. and Kimberly Rueseler of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Connie George and Trena (Randy) Leach, both of Kennett; sister-in-law, Rebecca (Bruce) Rueseler-Schindler of Bend, Oregon; three grandchildren, Grant (Kara) Hollis of Boulder, Colorado, and Alyssa Marie Rueseler and Remington Charles Rueseler of Cape Girardeau; along with four nieces, four great-nieces and three great-nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Friends may call on the family from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at First Presbyterian Church.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the church, with the Rev. Ellen Gurnon officiating. Burial will follow at Lorimier Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or American Cancer Society.

Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.
