John David Vogel, 71, of Oxnard, California, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, in Oxnard.

He was born May 29, 1951, in Cape Girardeau to Clarence and Myrtle Butterfield Vogel.

After the death of his first wife, he and Brenda Bugo were married Jan. 26, 2022, in Ventura, California.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for more than 20 years until his retirement in 1991 as a radioman chief petty officer (E-7). He also worked as a public safety dispatcher with the Ventura County Sheriff's Office from 1992 to 2011. He was a member of St. Mary's Church.

Survivors include wife, Brenda Vogel; daughter, Katherine (Jonathan) Skowera; stepdaughter, Lorina (Nat) Yahatta; stepson, Jimmy (Olivia) Ledesma; brother, Paul Vogel; four sisters, Lora (Ed) Mueller, Mary (Ernie) Carson, Theresa (Stephen) Baugh and Susan Burgener; three grandchildren, Vincent Skowera, Brandon Yahatta, Angel Yahatta; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Angelita "Helen" Vogel.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the funeral home, with Deacon Al Stoverink officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
