Dorothy "Maxine" Hinton Reed of Scott City died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at the Villas of Jackson at the age of 104.

She was born in Allenville on Nov. 9, 1918, daughter of Harry and Carrie Kinder Hinton. She married R.E. "Gene" Reed on Oct. 31, 1941. He preceded her in death Dec. 6, 2003.

Maxine worked at International Shoe factory in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1943. She also played second base on the ISCO softball team in the late 1930s.

She was a member of Illmo United Methodist Church, secretary of United Methodist Women and member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood U.T.U. Railroad.

She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Jean Taylor of Fenton, Missouri, Kay Ellen (Gary) Young of St. Charles, Missouri, and Sally Rae (Tim) Porch of Scott City; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Maxine was also preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Jo Reed; a grandson; seven sisters; and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Randy Morse officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
