David Grojean

Eugene David Grojean, 89, of Jackson, formerly of Gordonville with the family farm near Dutchtown, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Jackson.

He was born Jan. 8, 1933, in Cape Girardeau to Gregory and Josephine Meyer Grojean. David was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School, where he served as student body president and pitched on the baseball team. He married Carolyn R. Fehlings on May 3, 1956. Later, they divorced, and he married Shirley Statler in June 1990. She passed away Sept. 9, 2017.

During the Korean War, David honorably served in the U.S. Army from March 5, 1953, to Feb. 5, 1955. Upon returning to Cape Girardeau County, he worked in local lumber supply stores and continued his career in the lumber industry.

Loving survivors include three sons, Gregory (Margaret) Grojean of Naples, Florida, Michael (Donna) Grojean of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Joe Grojean of Poulsbo, Washington; a sister-in-law, Jane (late Joseph) Grojean of Gordonville; nephew, Joseph Meyer (Sasha) Grojean of Wichita, Kansas; niece-in-law, Renee (late Timothy) Grojean of Prescott, Arizona; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Meyer, Joseph "Bud" and Jerome "Jerry" Grojean; first wife and mother of his sons, Carolyn Grojean; nephew, Timothy Grojean; his parents; and second wife, Shirley Statler.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 27, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The Rev. Randolph Tochtrop will conduct a memorial service at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 27, at the funeral home. Military honors will be rendered at the funeral home following the memorial service. David will privately be inurned near his parents at St. Edward's Cemetery in Dutchtown.

In David's memory, contributions are suggested to St. Ambrose Catholic Church for maintenance of St. Edward's Cemetery.
