Margaret "Margy" Horn Shumway of Cape Girardeau, originally of Malden, Missouri, died Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Chateau Girardeau. Her family was at her side. She was 98 years, 6 months and 20 days old.

Margy was born Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1924, in Advance, Missouri, to Percy Vincent Horn and Dora Edna LaCroix Horn Kiel. She attended St. Mary Grade School in Cape Girardeau and later graduated from Bluett High School in St. Louis.

On Feb. 20, 1945, she was united in marriage to A.C. "Ace" Shumway Jr. in Denver. They ran Super Quick Market in Malden for years, retiring to travel in their Air Stream, going to Alaska and other destinations.

Margy loved to read, used to take walks and loved family get-togethers. She was a good and sweet person who will be truly missed.

She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.

She is survived by her son Steve (Arsula) Shumway of West Plains, Missouri; daughters, Debbie Shumway Campbell of Cape Girardeau and Carla (David) Letassy of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; grandson, Brian Campbell, and granddaughter Amy Campbell (Butch Steirs) of Washington state; grandson, Scott Shumway (Meranda Frost) of West Plains; great-grandsons, Dylan Haakana of Minnesota and Elijah Campbell of Seattle; and beloved sister, Anna Mae Trust of Chateau Girardeau.

Margy was preceded in death by her husband, Ace; daughter, Sharon Shumway; brother, John Horn, and his wife, Catherine; granddaughter-in-law, Tori Campbell; brother-in-law, Harry Trust; and stepfather, Bill Kiel.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Chateau Girardeau, Southeast Hospice and Saint Francis Medical Center for the care, compassion and support of Margy's journey. There are angels on earth!

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Tuesday, July 25, at Landess Funeral Home and Crematory in Malden.

Funeral will follow at noon Tuesday, July 25, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jesse Hiett officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden.

The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
