Kenneth Peoples

Kenneth D. Peoples of Mesa, Arizona, a dedicated husband, proud veteran, scholar and musician, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 21, 2023. He was 76 years old.

Born on Oct. 26, 1946, at Fort Hood, Texas, Kenneth's arrival marked a continuation of the family's proud military legacy, with his father, Dan, being stationed at the base during World War II. Raised in Versailles, Missouri, Kenneth's childhood was marked by the love and support of his parents, Dan and Nadyne Kiser Peoples.

Kenneth's life was characterized by his dedication to service. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in January 1965 and served with the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, Lima Company during the Vietnam War. His courageous actions on the battlefield earned him the Navy Achievement Medal with a Combat V, a testament to his selflessness and bravery.

Beyond his military achievements, Kenneth found joy in education and intellectual pursuits. He earned a bachelor's degree in law enforcement from the University of Central Missouri in 1971, followed by a master's degree in Criminal Justice Administration in 1973. He enjoyed writing and was a published author of books on constitutional law and military helicopters.

Kenneth enjoyed playing guitar and loved bluegrass and American folk music. In the early 1960s, he was a member of the folk band The New Morning Singers, who performed at Lee Mace's Ozark Opry. He also loved aviation and enjoyed exploring the world of flight simulation, a passion that allowed him to experience the thrill of aviation from the comfort of his own home.

His legacy lives on through his cherished family. Kenneth was married for 52 years to his devoted wife, Kathie Oxley. Together, they built a life of love, resilience and mutual support. He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Kelly Peoples.

Kenneth D. Peoples' memory will be treasured by family, friends, fellow servicemen and all those whose lives he touched.

Services to honor Kenneth's life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday Aug. 29, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau
