On May 11, 1957, he was united in marriage to Lillian Schwartz in New Hamburg, and they were happily married 63 years.

Marvin was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Cape Girardeau. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve before beginning his career with the Cotton Belt Railroad as an engineer.

Marvin was known for his collection of jokes and hats. He was a passionate gardener who loved sharing his abundance of homegrown produce, especially his loofahs. Together, he and his wife enjoyed making and sharing their homemade noodles, puff corn, toasted pecans and beef jerky. He also enjoyed helping with the Kow Pasture Klassic for many years. Family and friends will miss his stories and quick-witted sense of humor.
