Dennis "Pat" Brazel, 77, of Scott City left this world Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.

He was born July 5, 1946.

For 53 years, Pat was the devoted and loving husband of his soul mate, Caroline Brazel. Their union was a shining example of commitment, partnership and enduring love. Their love story was one of steadfast support, laughter and shared dreams. Their bond will continue to serve as a beacon of love for all.

As a proud member of the U.S. Army, Pat served his country in the Vietnam War, immediately following graduation from Illmo-Scott City High School. His service reflected his patriotism and unwavering dedication to the principles of freedom and democracy that the nation holds dear.

After 37 years of dedicated service to Burlington Northern Railroad, Pat retired, having also served as the local chairman.

Pat Brazel served as the Worship Master during his 50-year membership in the Masonic Lodge, which exemplified his commitment to moral values and brotherhood.

He was also a member of the Scott City Council, where he worked diligently to improve the lives of the community members.

He was a devoted member of LaCroix Church in Cape Girardeau

Pat was a fiercely loyal friend and family member. His kindness and generosity will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was known as the "glue" of his family and the life of the party.

Pat was a loving father to two children, Eric (Brandon) Brazel and Erin (Jimmy) Gloth, and a doting grandfather to five adoring grandchildren, Mary-Cameron, Carly, Zach, Jackson and Caroline. He leaves behind a sister, Jodie McKee; brother, Mike (Donna) Brazel; sister-in-law, Nita Brazel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Ray Brazel Sr., and mother, Dorothy Jeanette Brazel. Also leaving this earthly life before him were his siblings, Homer Ray Brazel, Gladys Kinsall, Jean Williams and Dick Brazel.

His devotion to his family was unwavering, and he cherished every moment spent with them. His wisdom, guidance and boundless love have left an indelible mark on their lives. His memory will be a source of comfort and inspiration.

While his family mourns the loss of Dennis Pat Brazel, it also celebrates a life well-lived and a legacy of love, service and devotion. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire us to be better, more compassionate and dedicated individuals.

Pat's visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

A celebration of his life will be at noon Monday, Oct. 23, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to LaCroix Church in Cape Girardeau or the Scott City School District's Children's Fund in his honor.

May his soul rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
