John Joseph Keusenkothen, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, at Chateau Girardeau. He was born Sept.1, 1931, in Cape Girardeau to John L. and Genevieve Marie Diebold Keusenkothen. John Joseph Keusenkothen, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, at Chateau Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 1, 1931, in Cape Girardeau to John L. and Genevieve Marie Diebold Keusenkothen.

He and Annabelle Alma Gilder were married Aug. 23, 1958, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death Oct. 1, 2013.

John was a graduate of St. Augustine Grade School, St. Mary's High School, Southeast Missouri State University and Saint Louis University with a master's in hospital administration.

He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955.

He worked for Saint Francis Medical Center for 23 years, starting as controller, then financial administrator. He advanced to the position of associate administrator and retired as president and CEO in 1991.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He was also an Eucharistic adorer at Saint Francis Medical Center Chapel for many years. He belonged to numerous hospital organizations, Cape Girardeau Rotary Club and Notre Dame Foundation Board.

He loved spending time at the lake, skiing and camping with his family.

Survivors include three sons, Dan (Kathy) Keusenkothen of St. Louis, Jim (Kim) Keusenkothen of Jackson and Mike Keusenkothen of St. Louis; two daughters, Lisa (Jeff) Unterreiner of Cape Girardeau and Mary Beth (David) Hercules of Kirkwood, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Kara Shrum of St. Louis; sister, Sister Genevieve (Marianne) Keusenkothen, DC, of St. Louis; seven brothers, Joseph A. Keusenkothen of St. Louis, Brother Thomas (Hubert) Keusenkothen, CFA, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Bernard (Kathy) Keusenkothen of St. Louis, Eugene Keusenkothen of Kelso, Missouri, Robert (Rose) Keusenkothen of St. Louis, Richard (Kathleen) Keusenkothen of St. Louis and Frederick Keusenkothen of St. Louis; 18 grandchildren, John Paul (Alicia) Keusenkothen, Joseph Michael (Sarah) Keusenkothen, Josh (Julia) Keusenkothen, Jenny (Kyle) Schade, Justin (Samantha) Keusenkothen, Jaci Keusenkothen, Michael Keusenkothen, Eric Keusenkothen, Sean Keusenkothen, Sam Keusenkothen, Anna (Tyler) Needham, Evan Unterreiner, Eliot Hercules, Sophia Hercules, Stella Hercules, Ava Hercules, Lydia Hercules and Leonides Hercules; nine great-grandchildren, Emery, Olivia, Nick, Noah, Charlotte, Carson, Annabelle, Isaac and Scarlett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Sister Bernadette Keusenkothen, SSND; sister-in-law, Laverne Keusenkothen; and an infant brother, Paul Keusenkothen.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be a 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating. Burial, with full military rites provided by the Missouri Honors Team, will follow at St. Augustine Catholic Church Cemetery in Kelso.

Memorial contributions may be given to Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund.
