PERRYVILLE — George Michael Hopfer, 85, of Perryville passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Oct. 21, 1938, in Uniontown to Michael and Gladys Cottner Hopfer. George was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Uniontown and attended grade school at Grace Lutheran School in Uniontown. He then attended Perryville High School and graduated in 1956...

PERRYVILLE — George Michael Hopfer, 85, of Perryville passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 21, 1938, in Uniontown to Michael and Gladys Cottner Hopfer.

George was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Uniontown and attended grade school at Grace Lutheran School in Uniontown. He then attended Perryville High School and graduated in 1956.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era.

George and Judith Favier were married Nov. 11, 1972, at Grace Lutheran Church in Uniontown, for 51 years.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, former member of the Highway Rodders, Amvets No. 94 and American Legion No. 133.

George was a truck driver for Gilster-Mary Lee for 36 years. He had his pilot license, was a Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiast and loved his old cars and junk.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Hopfer; special niece and nephew, Robin (John) Ficht of St. Peters and Bryan J. (Rebecca) Lohmann of Perryville, in which he raised; four grandchildren, Jacob and Natalie Ficht, Rylea and Mason Lohmann.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jimmy Hopfer.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Ford and Young Funeral Home in Perryville. Visitation will continue from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, with the Rev. Matthew Marks officiating. Burial will be at Apple Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pocahontas.

Memorial contributions may be given to Saxony Lutheran High School or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville.

Ford and Young Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
