Lavina Eggert

NEWNAN, Ga. — Lavina Eggert, 96, of Newnan, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Ansley Park Health and Rehabilitation care facility in Newnan.

She was born Aug. 20, 1927, to Ballard and Elizabeth Combs Collier in Neon, Kentucky. She and Burette L. “Buck” Cargle Jr., were married July 24, 1948, in Dayton, Ohio. Buck preceded her in death in 1992. Lavina then married David Eggert on Oct. 24, 2000, in Las Vegas. David preceded her in death in 2008.

She was a member of SonRise Baptist Church in Newnan. While living in Missouri, she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville and Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. She was a graduate of Radford High School in Radford, Virginia, and the Louisville College of Beauty Culture in Louisville, Kentucky.

Lavina worked a variety of jobs during her lifetime, but her favorite was being a wife, mother, grandma and great-grandmother. She loved to cook and was known for her chicken and dumplings and pies. She enjoyed collecting antiques and playing games.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and brother, Bennett M. Collier.

Survivors include sons, Michael (Diana) Cargle of Dexter and Jeffrey (Susan) Cargle of Newnan; stepdaughters, Cathy (Dan) Stitz of Cape Girardeau and Georgia (George) Tuttle of Camarillo, California; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Bernice Irene Wood of Oak Harbor, Ohio.

A memorial service and burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, at Passover Cemetery in Whitewater.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Samaritan’s Purse Ministries.
