John Thomas McMullin, 82, of Cape Girardeau passed away April 16, 2024.

Born Feb. 22, 1942, in Essex, John dedicated his life to his family, his faith and serving his community as a beloved pharmacist.

After graduating from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, he worked at White’s Drug Store in Sikeston and Medicare-Glaser Pharmacy in Cape Girardeau before founding John’s Pharmacy in 1989. His guiding business principle was one he lived: “We go the extra mile for you.”

Some things John loved: family dinner on Sunday evenings; family vacations, especially to the Oregon coast; holiday gatherings and surprising his wife with the additional guests he invited; the Fourth of July and buying fireworks for the grandkids; his church and Savior, Jesus Christ; his coworkers and customers; listening to Cardinal baseball games; and reading.

John’s greatest joy: his family. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Taffy McMullin, and their five children, James (Julia) McMullin of Arlington, Virginia; David (Tara) McMullin of Cape Girardeau; Sarah (Jason) Burke of Carbondale, Illinois; Emily (Abe) Funk of Jackson; and Mark (Daniela) McMullin of Cape Girardeau. He was a proud grandfather to 21 grandchildren, who brought him immense happiness, Bradley, Lizzie, Henry, Abby and Jeffrey McMullin; Sterling, Truman and Harper McMullin; Tanner (Kennedy), Andrew, Margaret, Nathan and Gabe Burke; Jacob, Joshua, Hannah, Emma and Caleb Funk; and Asher, Jack and Jude McMullin.

John is also survived by his brother, Jerry McMullin, and sister, Peggy Tallman, both of St. Louis.

Faith in Jesus Christ played a central role in John’s life. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as a teacher, branch president, bishop and counselor in the Stake Presidency. Many of his closest friends were those he learned from and worked with while serving.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Mayo Clinic or the American Lung Association.

Online condolences may be made at www.fordandsonsfuneralhome.com.
