NASA has extended public viewing hours for its Starship 2040 exhibit in Cape Girardeau.

Housed in a 48-foot-long tractor-trailer, the mockup of a commercial spacecraft as it might look in 2040 will be on display at the NASA Educator Resource Center at 222 N. Pacific St. Wednesday through Friday.

But with over 1,000 school children from 17 schools scheduled to visit the exhibit, NASA has decided to offer extended hours for the general public.

The extended hours are from 5-7 p.m. on Sept. 12 and 13. The general public also can attend during the regular hours, but may face long lines of school children viewing the exhibit, said Jackie Wortmann, program coordinator for the NASA Educator Resource Center.

The regular hours are 1-5 p.m. on Sept. 12, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 13 and 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 14.

NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., created the exhibit.
