Blues sign MacInnis to two-year extension

ST. LOUIS -- It looks like Al MacInnis and his ankle-busting slap shot will be around for at least two more seasons after this one.

The St. Louis Blues announced Monday that MacInnis has signed a two-year contract extension reportedly worth $14 million, keeping the defenseman under contract through the 2003-2004 season.

MacInnis, 38, was in the final year of a contract that pays him $5 million and would have been eligible for unrestricted free agency July 1. The Canadian sports network TSN said the extension was valued at $14 million. The Blues would not discuss terms.

MacInnis, whose slap shot has been clocked at more than 100 mph, won the Norris Trophy as the league's best defenseman in 1998-99.

MacInnis has three points in four games this season. In 21 seasons with the Calgary Flames and the Blues, he has played in 1,265 games with 313 goals and 848 assists for 1,161 points.

Boselli out for season after shoulder surgery

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Jaguars left tackle Tony Boselli had successful surgery on his right shoulder Monday and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

The Jaguars have not placed Boselli on injured reserve yet, but with a four-month rehabilitation period, he would not be ready to play until February. The Jaguars said a decision on his roster spot is expected in the next few days.

Last week, the Jaguars signed Todd Fordham, who is scheduled to start at left tackle Thursday when Jacksonville plays Buffalo.

The Jaguars made public Boselli's injury Sept. 27, listing him as questionable for their Sept. 30 game against Cleveland. He sat out that game and played at much less than 100 percent Oct. 7 against Seattle before deciding on surgery.

NHL suspends Bertuzzi, Parker for brawl

NEW YORK -- Vancouver Canucks forward Todd Bertuzzi's 10-game suspension was upheld by the NHL on Monday, while Colorado Avalanche forward Scott Parker was banned for two games.

The suspensions will cost Bertuzzi $118,556.70, and Parker $6,055.84 in lost salaries, with the money going to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund. The Canucks were also fined $10,000.
