Heavy rain in the St. Louis area continues to play havoc with the Notre Dame and Perryville high school softball teams.

For the second time, the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Pirates both had state quarterfinal games at the Ballwin Athletic Association rained out Monday. Those contests had originally been scheduled for Saturday, but were also rained out.

What happens next is not entirely clear, although the plan is for Perryville to play its 3A contest against Lutheran South at 4 p.m. today at Arena Park in Cape Girardeau -- assuming the field is not too wet.

"There was no way they were going to be able to get the fields ready in Ballwin (by today), so Lutheran South agreed to come down here and play," said Perryville coach Lynn O'Neal.

As for Notre Dame, the Lady Bulldogs were also hoping to move their 2A game against Clopton to Cape Girardeau, but Clopton officials would not agree to that.

"Their coach agreed to it, but their principal didn't want to because it's about a 3 1/2 hour bus trip," said Notre Dame coach Chris Janet.

But with no guarantee that the games could even be played in St. Louis in the next several days -- and with the state semifinals set for Friday in Columbia -- Janet said there is a chance the Missouri State High School Activities Association will force Clopton to play at Arena Park today.

Janet said Notre Dame would not find out anything further until early today. He said if the game is played at Arena Park, it would likely be at 4 p.m.
