Two selected to contend in Heisman program

Scott City High School selected Makenzie Cartwright and Andrew Estes as outstanding seniors to contend in the eighth annual Wendy's High School Heisman Program.

The program was created through a partnership between Wendy's International, the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Downtown Athletic Club, home of the Heisman Memorial Trophy.

It recognizes high school seniors nationwide who have learned to collaborate and appreciate the interrelation of academics, athletics and community service.Cape student receives Mosley scholarship

Pamela M. Bramlett, daughter of Carolyn Bramlett of Cape Girardeau, received the Kimberly Mosley Memorial Scholarship from Three Rivers Community College.Dobbins honored by Old Dominion University

Ken Dobbins, president of Southeast Missouri State University, was honored as a distinguished alumnus by Old Dominion University during a Founder's Day awards dinner Oct. 11 at the Norfolk, Va., school.

Dobbins earned his master's degree in business administration with an emphasis in management information systems from Old Dominion in 1979.Meadow Heights students of the month

Meadow Heights School District announced its students of the month for October.

Toby Kirpatrick, Nicolas Burnham, Chris Becker and Johnny Hunter were selected from the high school.

Kenny Simpson, Terry Wagner, Kyle Pender, Nathan Revelle, Blake Cook, Brandon Bell, Bryan Cook, Katrina Steele, Kylee Shoemake, Rebecca Brown, Erica Wilfong, Elizabeth David and Amanda Hurd were selected from the junior high.

All of the students who were selected received coupons and free services and products from local area businesses.Amick named October student of the month

Britne F. Amick, daughter of Scott and Donna Amick of Scott City, Mo., was named Cape Girardeau Exchange Club student of the month for October.

Amick is a member of the National Honor Society, student council, yearbook, Future Business Leaders of America, Pep Club, FHA, FFA, FTA, softball and cheerleading squad.Alumni association honors Bekki Cook

The University of Missouri-Columbia Alumni Association recently recognized Bekki McDowell Cook of Cape Girardeau for her ongoing dedication and commitment to the university.

Cook earned both her bachelor of arts and juris doctor at MU before serving as secretary of state for Missouri.Kelly crowns king, queen of barnwarming

Alana Burford and Adam Duncan were crowned queen and king of the annual Kelly Barnwarming was held on Oct. 12 at the Ag Building at Kelly High School.

Kaleigh Wood, Clay Mothershead, Christine Tew, Lee Ziegler, Misty Menz and Chris Glastetter were candidates.
