White promoted at McLeodUSA Publishing

Jason White of Cape Girardeau has been promoted to district sales manager of McLeodUSA Publishing Co.

White, who joined the company more than a year ago, will be responsible for sales and service of yellow pages in the St. Louis area McLeodUSA directory.

McLeodUSA provides communications services in 25 states. The company also provides data and voice services in all 50 states.

Manager completes Wonderlic training

Stephanie Bledsoe, area manager for the Cape/Sikeston Workforce Employment Solutions, has completed training as a Wonderlic Testing Administrator.

Workforce recently entered into a partnership with Wonderlic Inc., a leader in recruiting, assessment and selection technology, which has opened two testing centers in the region,

The local center is in West Village at 2520 William St. in Cape Girardeau.

Broker attends NAR conference in Chicago

Thomas M. Meyer, of Cape Girardeau, a broker for Thomas L. Meyer Realty Co., recently attended the National Association of Realtors (NAR) Conference and Expo at Chicago.

Dr. David Lereah, NAR's chief economist, was a key speaker at the conference which was attended by more than 23,000 Realtors and guests.

Meyer is a national director with the Realtor Association and has been named regional vice president for the NAR, serving as NAR's liaison for Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma.

Meyer, a Realtor for more than 30 years, has served on the NAR Board of Directors since 1995. He has also served on several association committees, including the Fiscal Affairs and CIPS advisory. He is also a member of the NAR International Operations Committee.

Meyer has served as treasurer, vice president and president of the Missouri Association of Realtors. And, on the local level, Meyer has served as president of the Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors, and has chaired most of its major committees.

Two complete training course on mold cleanup

Virgil Jones, owner of ServiceMaster Professional Cleaning Service and KMC Construction, and Tony Smee, general manager, recently completed a three-day mold-remediation course at Orlando, Fla.

The course provided technical information and techniques for cleaning and removing mold safely in situations ranging form mile to severe contamination.

The course was presented by ServiceMaster Clean, in cooperation with Restoration Consultants, a division of Restoration Services Inc., which has more than 25 years of experience in indoor environmental services.

Accountant attends three-day conference

William R. Schott, CPA with Schott & Van de Ven, Certified Public Accountants attended the Management of an Accounting Practice (MAP) annual conference recently.

Schott was a founding member of the MAP conference and has served on the committee for 29 years.

Sponsored by the Missouri Society of CPAs, the three-day conference was held in Kansas City. Keynote speaker was Mike Jensen, former chief financial correspondent for NBC Television. The award-winning journalist spoke on "What Lies Ahead for the Economy."

Schott founded a certified public accounting firm in Cape Girardeau in 1959. Today Schott & Van de Ven is a full service public accounting firm located at 1020 N. Kingshighway, Suite D, Cape Girardeau. The firm has satellite offices in Marble Hill, Mo., and Marion, Ill.

Woman wins cruise for two in makeover contest

Lindsey Schneider of Perryville, Mo., won a cruise for two in a model makeover contest, sponsored by the Jana Jateff Unit of Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Schneider was a customer of Nicole Ritch of Perryville.

Models were judged on the biggest difference in before and after pictures.

Scott County assessor attends conference

Teresa M. Houchin, Scott County assessor, recently attend the 2001 annual Assessors Conference.

The conference, sponsored by the State Tax Commission and the Missouri State Association of County Assessors, provides continuing education for assessors on a variety of topics.

Topics discussed at the three-day conference were Deeds and Land Transactions, Appraiser Certification, and the Impact of Demographic Change on Property Values.
