BENTON, Mo. -- Bridgett Riley scored 18 points as Kelly High School's girls basketball team knocked off visiting Delta 58-46 Monday night in the season opener for both squads.

Dana Essner added 12 points for the Lady Hawks while Christy Kluesner contributed 10.

Delta was led by Rebecca Below with 21 points. Sarah J. Cook added 12.

The Lady Hawks trailed 26-24 at halftime but took control with a 20-5 edge in the third quarter to carry a 44-31 lead heading into the final period.

JV BASKETBALL

CENTRAL TOURNAMENT

Notre Dame, Jackson and Poplar Bluff romped as the Cape Central JV girls tournament got under way.

Summer McCauley scored 21 points as Notre Dame beat Cape Central 53-10.

Jackson downed Sikeston 55-18 and Poplar Bluff defeated Perryville 51-13.

JR. HIGH BASKETBALL

CENTRAL SWEEPS

Cape Central's freshmen and eighth grade boys teams both opened their seasons with wins over Sikeston.

The freshmen won 58-48 behind 13 points from Eli Harris and 12 from Lorenzo Braxton.

The eighth grade prevailed 37-32 as Xavier Delph and Kingsley Ehie each scored 12 points.
