Convention and Visitors Bureau will continue operations in Cape Girardeau if bureau's advisory board has its way; board voted unanimously yesterday to continue bureau's operations as it trimmed list of more than 30 funding proposals to eight.

Crew with Nebraska Testing Corp. of Omaha, Neb., is taking core samplings along Illinois side of Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau; results will be used to complete plans for new Mississippi River bridge.

Heavy snow - classified as blizzard - dumps about 10 inches of snow throughout nearly all the area, adding more fuel to winter's fury, which began early Thursday morning when three inches of snow fell; storm began shortly after midnight Saturday, continuing without let up until early in evening; temperatures slip to bone-chilling minus 3 degrees.

James R. Stricker, who served as administrator of Southeast Missouri Hospital for over most of past 10 years, was recognized for his service by Board of Trustees at dinner at hospital last night; he will soon go to Saudi Arabia to make final determination on accepting administrative post at new hospital there for two-year period.

Taking advance notice of fact that state high school basketball tournament will be held in Cape Girardeau during week beginning March 11, Traffic Advisory Committee has directed study be made designed to improve traffic conditions and provide additional parking facilities in vicinity of Houck Field House, where games will be held.

Oran - Voters of Oran yesterday approved $125,000 revenue bond issue to build city-owned natural gas system; issue passed 272 for and 83 against; Mayor Abram Hirschowitz says he will telephone Municipal Bonding Co., Inc., of St. Louis, which will dispose of bonds, and Russell A. Axon, consulting engineers, also of St. Louis, who will prepare specifications.

75 years ago: Jan. 9, 1927

Young people's department, which will supervise all work of young people of church, is being organized at Centenary Methodist Church; department will be under direction of the Rev. Fred Armstrong, religious educational director of Centenary.

Portion of Highway 25 from Delta to Stoddard County line, which was under construction for several months, was opened to traffic yesterday, linking that route to Cape Girardeau; although work hasn't been completed, gravel has been placed over sections that weren't done, and traffic will be able to proceed during winter;.
