Cape man joins U.S. Army

Andrew R. Vanek of Cape Girardeau has joined the U.S. Army under the Army's Delayed Entry Program and will report for duty Jan. 29.

Vanek will report for basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Ga.

Vanek is the son of Catherine Vanek.

Under the DEP program, a recruit can join the Army and take up to 365 days before starting active duty.

Son of Marble Hill man joins U.S. Army

Ryan P. Bridges, a 2001 graduate of Highland Park Senior High School, St. Paul, Minn., has joined the U.S. Army under the Delayed Entry Program.

Bridges, the son of Debra L. Tressle of St. Paul and Francis L. Bridges of Marble Hill, Mo., qualified for a $6,000 enlistment bonus under the DEP program.

Bridges will report to basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
