Perryville - Voters in Perry County School District will decide in April if they will pay more in school taxes to fund additional school buildings; Perry County Board of Education last night unanimously decided to ask voters for 19-cent increase in current school operating levy and also to approve $4.9 million bond issue.

Plans for finance drive, with goal of $5,000, were outlined last night at meeting of youth center committee made up of representatives from various civic organizations; in addition, committee discussed hiring paid director for youth center.

Organized labor will oppose any changes in form of city government in Cape Girardeau, it was decided last night at meeting of Central Trades and Labor Union; Central TraDes is composed of business agents and delegate of all of city's 15 union locals.

75 years ago: Jan. 23, 1927

Services are held as usual at First Baptist Church building at Broadway and Spanish street, the break in heating plant having been sufficiently repaired to heat building; services at church last Sunday were dispensed with as result of furnace trouble.

John Gould Fletcher, English critic and poet, will read several of his own poems at his appearance at Teachers College auditorium Tuesday evening, under auspices of college entertainment committee; although born in Little Rock, Ark., Fletcher has resided past several years in London.
