Charles L. Wright, 83, of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Stoddard County, Missouri, son of Cleveland and Rhoda Jane Harper Wright.

He married Virginia Clark Jan. 18, 1941, in Piggott, Ark.

Charles worked at Missouri Utility and AmerenUE for 40 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Cape Girardeau where he was very active, had taught Sunday School and was past superintendent of Sunday Schools. He was also a ham radio operator.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Wright of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Jerry Wright of Denver, Colo., and Ron Wright of Springfield, Ill.; a daughter, Beverly Darter of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Betty Allen of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Patrick and Adrian Wright of Denver, Sara and Suzanne Wright of Springfield, Ill., and Erin Darter of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. William L. Burke will officiate.

Entombment will be at Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or Southeast Hospice.
