CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Andrew John Enderle, 88, of Chaffee died Friday, March 1, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 9, 1913, in Chaffee, son of Peter and Katie Gosche Enderle.

He and Christine Backfisch were married Aug. 13, 1938. She died Aug. 21, 1999.

A retired farmer, Enderle was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, Mo. He also belonged to St. Lawrence Men's Club and the Knights of Columbus Council 1111 in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include three sons, Orville and Ralph Enderle of Chaffee and Melvin Enderle of Scott City, Mo.; three daughters, JoAnn Compas of Johnston City, Ill., Doris Eftink of Oran, Mo., and Kay Watkins of Scott City; a brother, Ed Enderle of Chaffee; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, six brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with parish prayers at 7 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary following parish prayers.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Normand Varone and Monsignor Edward Eftink officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Catholic cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
