To the editor: I suggest that all mail, excluding religious and church-related mail, pay the full first-class rate of 34 cents. That would bring a screeching halt to the junk mail. Why should I pay 34 cents to send a letter to my son across the state while some get-rich-quick scheme pays much less to mail dozens of items? The U.S. ...

I suggest that all mail, excluding religious and church-related mail, pay the full first-class rate of 34 cents. That would bring a screeching halt to the junk mail. Why should I pay 34 cents to send a letter to my son across the state while some get-rich-quick scheme pays much less to mail dozens of items? The U.S. Postal Service constantly complains about losing money. Equalize the fees for all mailers. I suspect rates could then be reduced. Why make consumers sign up to deter mail they don't want?
