JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- New drivers would be given information about the perils of drunken driving under a bill recently passed by the Senate.

The Senate voted 31-0 Wednesday for the legislation sponsored by Sen. Anita Yeckel, R-St. Louis.

The bill, which is considered non-controversial, heads next to the House, where an identical measure has been proposed.

There was no debate on the Senate bill.

The state Department of Revenue would be responsible for providing the information about the dangers of drunken driving.

Currently, the department provides information only about Missouri's drunken driving laws.

The new driver bill is SB1109 (Yeckel).
