Kathy Swan, owner of Cape Girardeau-based communications company JCS/Tel-Link, was appointed by Gov. Bob Holden to the 40-member Missouri Business Education Roundtable to study and recommend solutions for critical issues facing Missouri's public schools, including a statewide teacher shortage.
Members of the roundtable, who will hold their first meeting today in Jefferson City, will meet with and learn from experts in business education partnerships from across the nation.
They also will examine current and projected needs for teachers in public schools, the effectiveness of current policies and programs for the recruitment and retention of qualified teachers, and the unique needs and concerns of hard-to-staff schools.
