Lena E. Guard, 91, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Ratliff Care Center. She was born Dec. 26, 1910, at Harviell, Mo., daughter of George W. and Cora Richardson Myrant. She and Paul H. Guard were married June 13, 1931, in Corning, Ark. He died Aug. 8, 1970. She and Fred Smith were married Dec. 4, 1976. He died Oct. 16, 1993...

Lena E. Guard, 91, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Ratliff Care Center.

She was born Dec. 26, 1910, at Harviell, Mo., daughter of George W. and Cora Richardson Myrant. She and Paul H. Guard were married June 13, 1931, in Corning, Ark. He died Aug. 8, 1970. She and Fred Smith were married Dec. 4, 1976. He died Oct. 16, 1993.

Guard was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene and was active in the Missionary Society and Young People's Society, and taught Sunday School. She was a volunteer at Southeast Missouri Hospital, and lifelong member of VFW Auxiliary to Post 3838.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Guard Jr. of Cape Girardeau, Robert Guard of Perryville, Mo.; a daughter, Carolyn Spencer of Perryville; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters, and a grandson.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at First Church of the Nazarene, with the Revs. William L. Burke and E.K. Purcell officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Poplar Bluff Cemetery at Poplar Bluff, Mo.
