SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A Missouri State Highway Patrol pilot acquitted of rape will get his job back.

A patrol review board voted 3-2 on Friday to recommend reinstating Sgt. David Callaway with full back pay.

And patrol Superintendent Roger Stottlemyre ratified the recommendation, said Callaway's attorneys' Dee Wampler and Joe Passanise, who spoke Friday night during a news conference.

Callaway told broadcasters in Springfield that he is gratified, and looks forward to going back to work. He says a couple of details still must be worked out with his supervisors.

A Dade County jury in February found Callaway, of Marshfield, innocent of charges of rape, sodomy and sexual abuse. The 16-year veteran of the force has been on unpaid leave since June, after the patrol began investigating allegations that he attacked an 11-year-old girl in 1989.
