An Easter egg hunt, sponsored by Schnucks, Zimmer Radio Group and Pepsi Cola, will be held Saturday at Arena Park in Cape Girardeau, starting at 9 a.m. Youngsters ages 2 and 3 will hunt at 9:30 a.m. and 4 to 6 at 9:30 p.m. Youngsters 7 and 8 will hunt at 10 a.m.

Earth Day poster contest open to all fifth-graders

Keep Cape Beautiful Council, a program of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, is sponsoring its first annual citywide Earth Day poster contest.

The contest is open to all fifth graders in Cape Girar-deau, public and private schools, and is part of a campaign to educate the community about the negative impacts and safety hazards of litter.

Poster entries should feature an educational message on the harmful effects of littering and illegal dumping.

Winners will be announced on April 22, Earth Day.

Youth fishing event set at Jackson Rotary Lake

Youth fishing at the lake will be held April 20 at Jackson Rotary Lake in Jackson City Park. Attendance prizes will be presented at 11 a.m., and a pizza lunch at 11:30 a.m., said Shane West Anderson, Jackson parks and recreation director. All participants will receive a Missouri Department of Conservation fishing bag.

'Friends of the Parks Day' slated for April 27

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor its 17th annual "Friends of the Parks Day" Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Registration will get under way at 8:30 a.m. at Capaha Park.

The city's annual Friends of the Parks Day offers individuals and groups an opportunity to help clean up the parks.

As many as 400 volunteers turn out for he annual event.

Any individual or group interested in participating in the day's activities may contact Brock Davis, park supervisor.

"We're in the process of assigning duties now," said Davis.

Emerson mobile office to visit Perryville

U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson's mobile office will visit Perryville, Mo., on Wednesday.

The mobile office will be at the Perry County Administration Building from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Darren Lingle, mobile office director, will answer constituents' questions and write down their concerns.

Egg hunt/cakewalk set at Heartland Rehab

An Easter egg hunt/cakewalk will be held at the Heartland Care and Rehab Center, 2525 Boutin Road, Saturday at 10 a.m., for residents, their friends and the community.

The cakewalk will follow the egg hunt.

St. Francis golf benefit scheduled for Aug. 23

Janet Esicar and Rick Essner will be co-chairpersons for the 15th annual Friends of St. Francis Benefit Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held Aug. 23 at Bent Creek Golf Course at Jackson.

Essner and Esicar have been active in coordinating the tournament for a number of years, said Jim Govro, president of the Friends of St. Francis.

The tournament has provided more than $500,000 in funding to the hospital since its inception in 1988.

Funds have been used for special projects, including refurbishing patient rooms, visitor hospitality rooms, purchasing medical equipment, providing a house-wide educational video system and bedside computers in patient rooms.

Young Life golf tourney taking place May 17

Young Life has established the date for its golf tournament. The tournament will be held May 17 at the Cape Girardeau Country Club.

'Great Decisions' series wraps up foreign issues

The final two foreign issue topics of the "Great Decisions" series, co-sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Public Library and Center for Regional History, are set.

"Russia Reexamined" will be discussed April 3, and "Energy and the Environment" will be discussed April 10.
