Seabaugh and Darnell appointed to WIB

J. Mike Seabaugh of Jackson, Mo., and Patti Darnell of Fredericktown, Mo., have been appointed to the Workforce Investment Board of Southeast Missouri. Seabaugh is project manager with the Department of Economic Development at the Dexter, Mo., office and will replace Mitch Robinson on the WIB. Robinson has turned in his resignation.

Seabaugh has served seven years as project manager of the Business Expansion and Attraction Group at the Southeast Regional Office in Dexter and serves a total of 19 counties in Southeast Missouri.

Darnell is the controller at Cap America and has held that position about a year.

The Workforce Investment Board is set up to create a skilled workforce. Seabaugh and Darnell attended their first meeting March 19.

Prudential agents win Leading Edge award

Jackie Clark-Otto, Betty Lou and Don Vogel and July Miller, Prudential Bridgeport Inc. Realtors, were recently named winners of the Leading Edge Society Award for 2001. This award recognizes the residential sales professionals whose sales performance during the past year placed them in the top 6 percent of 44,000 Prudential agents worldwide. Jo Duff, Prudential Bridgeport Inc. Realtors, was recently named recipient of the Honor Society Award for 2001. This award recognizes the residential sales professionals whose sales performance last year placed them in the top 10 percent of Prudential agents. The awards were presented by the Prudential Real Estate Affiliates Inc. during the company's annual sales convention held in New Orleans March 10-13.

Swan named chairman of Great Lakes Association

Kathy Swan, president of JCS/Tel-Link in Cape Girardeau, was recently installed as chairman of the Board of the GLMSS Association (Great Lakes MSS Association) at the spring meeting in St. Pete Beach, Fla. GLMSS is comprised of nearly 100 Motorola two-way radio service providers located in 31 states.

The membership meets twice yearly to network and gain education in small business operations. Swan has served the past three years as a member of the board.

Swan is the first woman to be elected to the GLMSS Board and serve as chairman of the board in over 10 years and the second woman since the group's founding 26 years ago. Swan's husband, Reg Swan, also served as chairman of the board in 1996.

Herbst attends reception at Wal-Mart headquarters

Cherie Herbst, community relations director for Sam's Club, recently returned from the Wal-Mart home office in Bentonville, Ark., where a reception was held by MMR Inc., a major research company for retailers. The company is involved with a study with Wal-Mart, and a select few of Sam's and Wal-Mart customers toured the home office and visited with the Wal-Mart and Sam's CEOs.

The Sam's Club in Cape Girardeau was recently honored with the Helen Walton Award for its division. The award is bestowed on those clubs that are active in their community needs throughout the year.

WIB members attend Washington conference

Four members of the Workforce Investment Board of Southeast Missouri and Ron Swift, president of WIB, attended a national conference in Washington, D.C., March 3-5. The conference was the National Association of Workforce Boards "Forum 2002." The theme of this year's conference was "Taking Your Board to the Next Level."

Board members attending were Beth McFarland, Kathy Sanders, Larry Windle and Bob Fulton.

Swift and the board members visited U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson on Capitol Hill. Swift presented Emerson with a jacket as a gift from the Workforce Investment Board.
