BENTON - With the deadline to file for county offices past, all but a few county office holders up for re-election in Scott, Mississippi and New Madrid counties may rest easier knowing they are running unopposed on both the August and November ballots.

Paul Boyd and Frank Marshall will face each other during the Aug. 6 primary election having both filed as Democrats for the Scott County prosecuting attorney position.

In Mississippi County, incumbent Jim Blumenberg will face Marty Pullen and Brett Matthews in the primary election to see who goes on the November ballot as the Democratic candidate for presiding commissioner.

Mississippi County Republicans will choose from Danny Smithson, David Williams and Buddy Reeves for their presiding commissioner candidate.

Also running for presiding commissioner is Steve Ledbetter as a Libertarian.

Two races developed on the Democratic tickets in New Madrid County as filing closed Tuesday.

After winning election to the office, Brian Mauk will be opposed in his effort for a full four-year-term as New Madrid County auditor. Also filing for the office is Howard C. Tilman, who initially served in the office following appointment to the post by Gov. Mel Carnahan.

Incumbent New Madrid County Treasurer Tom Bradley of rural Sikeston will face opposition in the August primary on the Democratic ticket from Richard Phillips of New Madrid. The winner will fill a two-year term of office.

Also a race has developed for the office of presiding commissioner. Incumbent Clyde Hawes, a Democrat, has no opposition in the primary but will face political newcomer Jared Jones, who filed as a Republican in the November general election.

Scott County incumbents running unopposed for new terms in their respective offices are: Associate Circuit Division 4 Judge Hense Winchester, Associate Circuit Division 5 Judge David Mann, Scott County Presiding Commissioner Martin Priggel, Circuit Clerk Pam Glastetter, County Clerk Rita Milam, Treasurer Glenda Enderle, Recorder Tom Dirnberger and Collector Mark Hensley. All are running as Democrats.

Incumbents running unopposed on the Democratic ticket in Mississippi County for new terms are: Circuit Clerk Karen Turley, County Clerk Hubert DeLay Jr., Collector Faye Elliott, Treasurer Sandra Smoot, Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer B. Raffety and Associate Judge Lynn Brown.

Democrat Judy Rolwing is unopposed in her bid for the newly-created position of county recorder, a job previously part of the duties of the circuit clerk in Mississippi County.

Incumbents running without out opposition on the New Madrid County Democratic ticket for the Aug. 6 primary and without opposition in November are: Associate Circuit Judge Charles Spitler, Circuit Clerk Marsha Holiman, County Clerk Jim W. Farrenburg and Collector Dewayne Nowlin.

Two officials, Prosecuting Attorney H. Riley Bock and Recorder Ben Ashley, are not seeking re-election and their posts are sought by staff members. Lewis H. Recker, who previously served as assistant prosecuting attorney, will seek the job of prosecuting attorney. Ann Evans Copeland, who served as deputy clerk, has filed for the office of county recorder. Both filed as Democrats and are unopposed.
