Sarah Hyslop of Cape Girardeau Central and Jenna Leet of Jackson both played starring roles for their teams in the 2001-02 basketball season.

Today, both players contributions have been recognized with their selection to the Class 4A second-team of the Bob Carter Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters All-State Basketball Team.

Hyslop, a 5-foot-10 senior center, averaged 18 points and six rebounds during her senior season. A factor both inside and outside, she helped the Tigers to a 17-9 record.

Leet, a 6-foot forward, could also score from anywhere on the court. She had similar numbers to Hyslop with 18 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for Jackson, which finished 18-9. A junior, she also shot 89 percent from the line and reached the 1,000- point plateau for her career.

Three Poplar Bluff players earned all-state distinction in 4A: Ashley Williams (first team), Nicole Rivers (second team) and Tony Webb (second team)

Also pulling in honors from Southeast Missouri: Dereke Tipler of New Madrid County Central (3A first team), Ronlan Ranson of NMCC (3A second team), Brad Gross of Park Hills (3A second team), Nickey Tucker of Fredericktown (3A second team) and Lontas McClinton of Sikeston (3A second team).
