Nora Naranjo-Morris, a Tewa Pueblo Indian sculptor, writer and video producer, will be in residence at Southeast April 8-13.

She will conduct a ceramics workshop on the evenings of April 8-10, followed by a pit-firing on the afternoon of April 13. Participants will work with clays traditionally used by Pueblo people from the New Mexico mountains.

Naranjo-Morris also will present a free public lecture on Pueblo humor at 5:30 p.m. April 10 at the Indian Room in the University Center. Another free public lecture on keeping the Pueblo culture alive will be presented at 7 p.m. April 11 at Glenn Auditorium in Dempster Hall.

Student exhibit to open at museum

The Annual Student Juried Assessment Exhibition opens Monday and continues through April 21 at the University Museum.

The public is invited to an opening reception for the artists from 4-6 p.m. April 5. A guitar duo will perform and awards will be presented.

The exhibition showcases works created by Southeast students during the past year. Guest juror Petronella Bannier of the University of Evansville has selected 30 to 40 works from over 300 entries.

Poet to speak Wednesday at Southeast

Lisa Kahn, a German-born poet who taught for 22 years a Texas Southern University, will speak at noon Wednesday in a Common Hour program at Southeast.

Her topic will be "From Grimm Humor to German Comic."

The program will be held at Crisp Hall, Room 125.

Fairport Convention coming to Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The '60s English group Fairport Convention will perform April 6 in Carbondale as part of the group's 35th anniversary tour.

Wordsfair to celebrate language

Wordsfair, a celebration of language, will be held from noon-4 p.m. April 6 on the terraces at Southeast.

The event will include poetry, music, and one-act plays. Tables will be set up for "word-related" businesses.

Poet Allison Joseph will be the guest artist.

The event is sponsored by the university's Society for Students in Publishing, Journey magazine and the Southeast Department of English.

'Saturday Night Fever' at Fox Theatre

ST. LOUIS -- The Broadway musical "Saturday Night Fever" will be presented April 30-May 5 at the Fox Theatre.

The 33-member cast includes many singers, dancers and actors from the original Broadway company. Annette will be played by a grown-up Aileen Quinn, who played the title role in the movie version of "Annie."

New Orleans preparing for festivals
