TAMMS, Ill. -- Michael W. Gunning Jr., 75, of Tamms died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Jan. 22, 1927, in Tamms, son of Michael Walter and Melba Sims Gunning Sr. He and Gladys Marie Penry were married Aug. 5, 1945. She died March 5, 2000.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tamms. He owned and operated an auto repair garage. He was a member of the Caledonia Lodge 47 AF&AM. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Munk of Blytheville, Ark.; a son, Michael T. Gunning of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Bobbie Joe Gunning of Greenville, Ill; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating. Burial will be in McCrite Cemetery.
