Southwestern Bell Foundation yesterday presented Southeast Missouri State University with $50,000 grant to develop "at-home" science program as part of program aimed at improving students' math and science skills.

50 years ago: April 10, 1952

A.L. McComb has resigned a manager of Biederman Furniture Co. store, 119 N. Main, and will be succeeded by Peter J. DiBona, who is being transferred from company store at Alton, Ill., where he was assistant manager; McComb, who opened store in Cape Girardeau in 1950, hasn't been well for several months and will take a rest to recuperate.

East Prairie - William Brack, 17, dies few minutes past noon after he accidentally shoots himself while target shooting with companion mile east of East Prairie; he was son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter O. Brack of East Prairie.

75 years ago: April 10, 1927

Palm Sunday. Class of 20 children is confirmed at morning worship service at Trinity Lutheran Church; members of class are Frank Brockmeyer, Elmer O'Connell, Wilton Suedekum, Delmar Karger, Harry Henson, Walter Roth, Herbert Suedekum, Marie Brunke, Marie Haman, Charlotte Popp, Laura Ochs, Dorothy Ahner, Clara Best, Elsa Loos, Lillian Rau, Helen Steck, Muriel Dyer, Helen Mayer, Hilda Jacob and Lela Vogel.

Measure, which will provide way by which Cape Girardeau may have municipal band supported by taxation, was signed last week by governor and will soon become law; bill provides that maximum two-mill levy may be assessed for support of band, or for band concerts; measure applies to all cities in state with population of less than 20,000.
