JACKSON, Mo. -- Michael Birk's three-run fifth-inning homer handed Jackson the lead and Trevor Thompson's sixth-inning solo shot provided insurance in a 10-9 baseball win Thursday over Sikeston.

With the Indians up 9-8 in the SEMO Conference contest, Thompson's home run gave Jackson a two-run cushion which proved huge as Sikeston (5-2) added a single tally in the top of the seventh.

Jason Owen (2-0) picked up the win in relief, shutting down Sikeston after an eight-run third inning.

Thompson led Jackson (4-4) with three hits and Jake Carter added two.

Dexter 16, Chaffee 9

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Dexter's bats came alive as Chaffee squandered a 7-0 lead to its SEMO Conference foe.

Chaffee (5-3, 3-3) defensive mistakes helped Dexter to an eight-run fourth inning. Andrew Horrell and Chase Eskew led the Red Devils' offense with three hits each.

Leopold 7, Richland 1

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Leopold (1-3), behind a stellar pitching performance by Brandon Bueter, rang up its first win.

Bueter (1-0), in his initial outing of the season, gave up two hits, struck out 11 and allowed no earned runs in five innings. Scott VanGennip led the Wildcats' offense with two hits.

Oran 18, Bloomfield 3

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- The Eagles pounced early to score a five-inning run-rule win.

Nathan Seyer homered and tripled to drive home four runs and Tyler Nelson also hit a home run for Oran (6-1). Seyer and Tyler Cookson led Oran with three hits each. Patrick Friga picked up the win.

Bell City 10, Woodland 1

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Bell City (3-3) turned on the power with three home runs in a five-run third inning.

Jason Rampley (four RBIs), Zak McIntyre (three RBIs) and Ben Duncan ripped the roundtrippers, while Ty Brown collected three hits. Duncan (2-0) tossed a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Crystal City 7, Perryville 4

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- A defensive lapse opened the door to a four-run sixth inning for Crystal City.

Perryville's Aaron Weibrecht (0-2) suffered the loss as the Pirates dropped to 1-7, 1-2 in the Jefferson County Conference. Eric Brueckner paced the Perryville offense with two doubles and Andrew Meyr added a triple.

Oran 6, Bloomfield 2

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Erica Dirnberger's fifth-inning RBI single with the score tied at two proved the game-winner.

Jami Pobst (4-0) got the win. Dirnberger, Tori St. Cin and Alica Webb led Oran (4-1-1) with two hits each.

Scott City 12, Portageville 3

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- Amy Young hurled a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts in Scott City's winning effort.

Scott City (4-2-1) divided 10 hits among 10 players.

Leopold 18, Richland 0

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Leopold used a 13-run third inning to improve to 3-0.

Melissa Thele went 2-for-4 for Leopold with a home run and four RBIs. Anna Nenninger was 2-for-3.

Melinda Trankle (3-0) allowed two hits in three innings.

Soccer

CENTRAL 4, MARION (ILL.) 0

Allie McGinty scored two goals as Central blanked Marion.

Central (5-3-1) took a 2-0 lead by halftime on goals by McGinty and Mallory Wilson. McGinty and Caitlin Bahn had second-half goals

Heidi Pilsner, Megan Richards, Kate Miller and Cameron Bennett assisted on the goals. Natalie Followell recorded the shutout in goal.

Central's JV won 5-0. Keely Lossing scored two goals and Lacey Landgraf, Lauren Thompson and Heather Hendrix added single goals. Megan Kistner and Natalie Followell combined for the shutout.

Perryville 2, St. Vincent 0

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Perryville (5-1) defeated rival St. Vincent (0-4-1) in a Jefferson County Conference matchup.

Britney Weibrecht scored one goal on a penalty kick and assisted Ashly Hadler on the second. Pirates goalie Amanda Nuyt recorded the shutout.

Golf

CENTRAL 159, NOTRE DAME 162

Central (3-4), led by medalist Todd Obergoenner, recorded a three-stroke victory over Notre Dame in a dual meet.

Obergoenner shot an even 35 over nine holes at Cape Girardeau Country Club. Adam Fenwick led Notre Dame with a 36.

Hillsboro 179, St. Vincent 185

HILLSBORO, Mo. -- St. Vincent fell to 2-3with a six-stroke conference loss to Hillsboro at Raintree.

Adam Prost of St. Vincent, 2-1 in the Jefferson County Conference, tied for medalist with a 6-over 42.

Swimming

LAFAYETTE 144, CENTRAL 42

State power Lafayette posted a convincing victory over Central (7-7) in a dual meet. Lafayette placed first in every event and allowed the Tigers just two second-place finishes.

Track & field

Central's girls won 15 events in handing a 134-52 dual loss to Sikeston.

Central's boys won two events in placing a distant second to Sikeston in a triangualar. Sikeston collected 113 points, Central had 50 and Egyptian (Ill.) finished with four points.
