Sons of Union Veterans of Civil War to meet
The Bootheel-area chapter of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Richard J. Oglesby Camp 61, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center, 112 E. Washington, Jackson, Mo.
Jane Jackson of the Cape Girardeau Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Commission will be guest speaker.
The group's Department of Missouri commander, Don Palmer, will be a visitor at the meeting.
Legislators to speak at Pachyderm meeting
Two state representatives will be guest speakers at the Southeast Missouri Pachyderm Club meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn in Cape Girardeau.
Rod Jetton of the 156th District and David Schwab of the 157th District will provide updates on the legislative session and what can be expected for the remainder of the session.
A dinner meeting will be held at 6 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.

Masonic Lodge dinner, meeting on Thursday
The Millersville Masonic Lodge Westview 103 will hold a dinner meeting Thursday at the lodge. Masons are invited for the dinner at 6:45 p.m. to be followed by a meeting.

Donkey basketball game at Jackson
The Jackson Middle School Parent Teacher Organization will sponsor a donkey basketball game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Jackson High School gym.
Advance tickets are available at the school and Semo Specialties and Sports at $5 for adults and $3 for elementary school students and senior citizens. Tickets will be $2 more at the door.

Garden clubs to hold Spring Fling luncheon
The Cape Girardeau Council of Garden Clubs will conduct its Spring Fling luncheon at noon Saturday at the Family Life Center of Centenary Methodist Church.
The program will feature a flower arranging demonstration by Judy Sheets.

Riverboat plans stop in Cape on Saturday
Cruising down the Mississippi River or up the Ohio River on the RiverBarge River Explorer is an unhurried experience.
The 730-foot floating hotel's pace is about 15 miles an hour at top speed.
RiverBarge will make its first appearance of the new season Saturday, docking at Cape Girardeau from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. On April 24, the Explorer will return at 2 a.m. and stay until about 1 p.m.
Riverboat vessels will make 21 stops at Cape Girardeau during the summer and fall.
Safe Return sign-up event planned April 26
The Southeast Missouri Alzheimer's Association will hold a "Safe Return" free registration event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 26 at the group's Cape Girardeau office, 1301 N. Kingshighway.
Safe Return is a nationwide identification, support and registration program designed for those with Alzheimer's disease or dementia. Those registering receive an identification bracelet or necklace, clothing labels, key chain, refrigerator magnet and wallet cards inscribed with the nationwide, 24-hour, toll-free crisis number.
Black Forest to hold Craftfest May 4, 5
The Black Forest Villages 12th annual Craftfest will be May 4 and 5. Carving, basket weaving and leather art will be demonstrated.
Other arts and crafts, entertainment and food will be available throughout the two days. Festival hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Information is available by calling 335-0899.
Harley Owners Group to sponsor poker run
The Southeast Missouri Harley Owners Group Poker Run will be held May 11, starting at Daytimer Lounge in Cape Girardeau at 11 a.m., and ending at the Corner Bar & Grill at Benton, Mo.
Proceeds from the event will go towards fighting multiple sclerosis.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. Entry fee is $15 a person.
Prizes will be awarded about 4 p.m., and there also will be a 50/50 drawing.
The event will include a pig roast, the band Nite Shift and a silent auction after the run.

United Way golf tournament May 20
The Area Wide United Way will sponsor its 15th annual charity golf tournament May 20 at the Cape Girardeau Country Club.
The tournament will be a four-person scramble, with morning and afternoon tee times. The entry fee is $100 a player, which includes lunch, cart and green fees.
In addition to prizes to the top teams, there will be a hole-in-one prize of a new vehicle.

Cape Shrine Club golf tournament May 17
The Cape Shrine Club will sponsor its seventh annual golf tournament May 17 at the Bent Creek Golf Course at Jackson.
Shriners, non-shriners and duffers are eligible for four-person scramble event.
In addition to prizes to the top teams, there will be a hole-in-one prize of a new vehicle. Prizes will also be presented for closest to the pin, closest to the line, longest putt and longest drive. A special prize will also be awarded for a hole-in-one on the 8th hole.
The cost is $65 a person. Tee-time is 1 p.m. with a shotgun start.
